I read all of the books. I get why people like it. There were fun moments of novelty.. I give it 3 out of 5 stars because while the author creates a new world for her readers to explore (which is incredible) I felt there was a lack of depth in the plot and the characters. It felt syrupy sweet start to finish. Very little action for all of the build up. The language was redundant (take a shot every time you read the words “gleaned” or “gleamed”.). Furthermore, while the overall story felt like a YOUNG ADULT series, the sex scenes were just down right gratuitous, for shock value I’d guess. I will say the last book toward the end had me cheering so hard for Nesta and her friends, but it felt so rushed; I really wanted more and was let down. So, not for me. But you may like it..?

I didn’t know it was historical fiction until after I finished the book. Shame on me. This book will remind you of who you were as a child and make you long to get in touch with them again. It also paints a picture of the love between siblings that is hard to fathom unless you’ve experienced it for yourself. The language the writer uses is beautiful; very captivating.
