In my opinion, this game is mind blowing. Seeing low reviews really makes me think that most online reviews nowadays are either bots or someone with an agenda. Truth be told, I’ve missed a lot of the MK series. I started with the first 3 and then missed a bunch because I fell out of love with fighting games. I tried MKX and that didn’t do it for me. But this one really clicks! There is a lot to love in this game but for me, one reason is because it has a lot for single players. I’m not interested in getting my butt kicked in vs mode online. I play for fun, I’m not trying to get a degree in my fighting game skills. IMO for a fighting game, the story is amazing. It’s basically an entertaining movie that is interspersed with fights that intelligently gets you acclimated to the player roster. I found it very interesting seeing how some of the characters gained their abilities and the circumstances that are behind the characters motivations. The story actually made me WANT to play as some characters that I would have otherwise passed up. I’m not sure what else someone would want from a fighting game story. My reference point is Street Fighter 6 which I also have, and in comparison, SF6 has virtually no story, especially not one that adds anything to the overall experience of the game. The graphics and sound design are among the best I’ve witnessed on PS5 thus far. I love my surround sound setup and hearing the sword slashing, bone crunching, mucus bubble popping in vivid detail has to be heard to be believed. The stages are absolutely gorgeous and all play a part in the greater story and are not just random disconnected locales. I found the game play easy to pickup and was pulling off combos smoothly (thanks to the VERY helpful tutorial) even though I hadn’t played an MK game in several years. I could keep detailing the games accolades but, I won’t waste more of your time. Just know this; this game is so enjoyable, and well made, it encouraged me to actually write a review for once and has renewed my passion for fighting games.
