When art goes beyond the intended goal of tingling your senses, when it collapses your beliefs and leaves you paralyzed, when the raised hair on the back of your neck refuse to settle. That’s when you know something disturbing yet beautiful has been created !
The ‘joker’ asked the most profound question towards the end of the movie-
‘isn’t it beautiful?’ Your mind and your soul knows the right answer, yet the only words one can utter at this point is ‘yes !’ As a viewer you are scared of ‘his’ face, yet you involuntarily look up to him. Every movement of his body, every twitch on his face, every strand of his hair and every crackle of his laugh seduces the viewer to the point that you end up becoming a mere spectator of the anarchy the ‘joker’ unleashes. In his evil, you see hope. In his victory you see yours ! Even a glimpse of ‘Bruce’ isn’t enough to pull the viewers out of their trance.
Did the movie deify the ‘joker’ ? Did it turn him into a ‘hero that Gotham deserves’ ?
YES !
