The movie is memorable. I don't understand much about why people think negatively. The cartoon character has an attractive design in the cartoons, and a funnier look than Tom and Jerry, or even Bugs Bunny. Woody deserves better. The only other classic character that has the same level of appeal would be Pink Panther.
