Is sad to see how the husbands abusive nature shuts down this poor woman and makes her seem at fault. Thowing a book one moment then apoligising, this messes with your head and leaves you dazed and confused. All very sweet and nice to his kids, but blaming his wife in a passive aggressive way. This is domestic violence and will result in her death if she stays.
Her mother enables the behaviour by telling her daughter she was lucky, without looking deeper. The restaurant scene was a red flag too.
This is the subtle face of domestic abuse, it gets worse and numbs the victim. Stupid mummy did it, didn't she, don't embarass me, f cow, this is all victim blaming! Tthe mother knew then she had to escape for her own sanity. It is dangerous packing in front of an abuser and she knew it, panic attack, run! She looks like the mad one.
I know that feeling of feeling like you getting out of prison when you leave their presence! You can see the change in the mother, living at home was so oppressive and toxic.
Great movie, all women should watch it.
