Well you see, Priestley was showing how horrible the rich were to the poor, his favourite part (most likely) being Arthur Birling not paying Eva Smith ‘enough’ and then firing her to somehow cause an insanely unrealistic chain of incredibly boring events. The reason to this you may ask? The author was a socialist and that always ends up as communism and thanks to the USSR we all know how that went. His book was ultimately a political statement to the young of his time- not to be used as a dry piece of text in GCSE English. Also Eva dying twice is a real brain hurter but so are his socialist ideas- Priestley has successfully made every English literature teacher and student die inside.
