I don't understand the positive reviews of this show. I am a Sci fi fan but the watered down Sci fi element is not why I hate this show and gave up on it after episode 6. Basically, it's written as if a middle schooler wrote it. It's so full of cliches and confusing character choices.
1. Why the whole story line with Sam Neil and then never reference him or that town again?
2. The Middle Eastern - American family: the constant cliche story line of racist 1 dimension characters automatically blaming this family for all their tragedy that is happening. Plus the cheating husband story line continuously makes choices that make no sense; the dad goes with them even though he was about to leave them just because his wife tells him to get in the car, the wife keeps making him stay even though she hates him now and he's useless, the kids panic every 5 minutes because the parents are fighting again.
3. The soldier in Afghanistan: don't get any details about his strained marriage, every soldier with him all play around like their on a hunting trip with their best buds, the soldiers are constantly pointing their guns at every local and yelling at them to stay back even when the soldier is dying and the local is obviously trying to help.
4 The worst story line. The English school kids on a field trip: such cliche characters- the small sickly kid that gets bullied, the confident more mature girl he has a crush on who perceives all, the bully of the class and his grouo of toadies who act like Sid Farcus in A Christmas Story.
5. Lastly there are the unbelievable story twists that keep happening: the middle class dedicated mother who suddenly chooses to steal the car and belongings of some other desperate family. The soldier who regains conscious after a tragic attack and was left buried in the sand then just leaves instead of digging around in the sand to look for his comrads. And, laughably, the school bus that drives off a 50 foot cliff yet all the students walk out with minor cuts and bruises but the 1 adult has a mortal wound.
The plot is so bad. The pace is so bogged down by long shots watching someone's feelings as they sit in some grim situation. And you never get any answers to the bigger world wide events this show was named for- the Invasion. How do people keep watching this and why did Apple keep backing it?
