There are a lot of things about this show that are unnecessary and very obvious "problematic" pro-woke inclusions that do nothing to further the story. There's also a lot of derivative stuff --- the central concept of the planet "At Attin" is essentially M. Night Shymalan's "The Village", combined with maybe Philip K. Dick's short stories "Autofac" & "The Defenders"; obviously Goonies.
But I think I've been acclimated to Disney Star Wars, and after the first couple episodes, I was hooked on the adventure & questing. And I really appreciate the serialized nature of them being presented with a new planet or scenario every episode. It's what made The Mandalorian such a great show.
The tone of this series reminds me of the 1984 Star Wars TV movie "Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure". I was a kid when that aired, and I remember it being great.
That's the feeling this series gives me.
When they start going on about the "High Republic" and the "Old Republic" , and all the various lore... I gotta admit I'm kind of a geek, but I'm not a nerd. I start to hear those Charlie Brown teacher noises when they are explaining Republic politics. It makes me realize I like sci-fi, not so much sci-fantasy. There's some of that here.
But I can't help wonder --- when these kids go home and tell their parents they're living in "The Village", and the bots haven't been 100% truthful with them --- how will that affect their society? I hope the writers have planned for that.
