Excellent film. Very credible production and acting. Richard Roxburgh particularly convincing.

Disappointing film that could have easily been much better. The first half was mostly about the players but was never properly resolved. Who was who? And what was Madam Cliquot actually trying to do with her champagne.. the poorly lit scenes didn't help here. The sound track was muddy with some players poorly articulating ... whispering is all very good providing the audience can hear it.! A film almost amateurish in presentation.

A disappointingly flat treatment of what could have been 2 hours of stimulating repartee between major intellects. Despite this the film provided sufficient interest to hold one's attention for the duration. Anthony Hopkins is convincing as Freud but a bland Matthew Goode playing a very understated Lewis is not so. The film needed more engagement with the audience ... a missed opportunity to portray both men as perhaps they really were.

Totally compelling as an portrayal of prewar Berlin. The authenticity of the sets and sheer physicality of the whole production is superb. The acting is compelling. It projects the fear and brutality that the Jewish population of Berlin experienced and this envelops you. I can only hope for a 5th series. Surely there will be so we can see the rise of the Nazi party and the treatment of the Jewish population.

Until seeing this film I was unaware of the events portrayed. The problem I had was with the early part of the film which was unclear and didn't clearly explain A lot of jerky snapshots.. I thought Helena Bonham-Carter was Nicholas Winton's wife... she certainly could have passed as that. Once the.plot was clearly defined the film came together and it then became fairly predictable. The TV studio scene was powerful but somehow rather flat..the audience seemed wooden ...maybe a bit more coaching needed here. Anthony Hopkins was excellent and completely credible. In summary ..a good nut not great film. but not great film.

A very flawed film. For me the use of Zadoc the Priest as the intro music was banal to say the least. Zadoc has been used countless times as a movie soundtrack..sometimes to good effect but not here. Why use it! Then the problem of the poor visuals and low level indistinct soundtrack. These improved about halfway through fortunately. To me it was an attempt to combine Brideshead, Draughtsman Contract and the Addams Family.! The sex scenes and the ending had the audience at my cinema laughing...... clearly included just for effect like nearly everything else in the film. As Catherine Tate would say "What a f*****g liberty".! miserablymiseudismally.

I went to this film expecting so much but came away disappointed. Not the tour de force as touted in the reviews but an overslow, predictable film. Some of the characterisations didn't work too well and Bill Nighy's portrayal of Mr Williams was just too extreme. How could anyone as devoid of energy and charisma become a senior public servant even in the British public service of the 1950s. The final scene with the constable was just saccharine sweetness in spades. I have seen many great British films that have had better character portrayals. Sorry Bill.

Expecting quality moviemaking I was incredibly disappointed by this pretentious, confusing overlong film. The first 30 minutes seemed to be recorded at a very low level so it was almost impossible to hear. This sound recording problem seems to be getting worse ..why? Do directors really listen to their takes? Then the repeated teases of a few seconds of beautiful orchestral playing cutting almost immediately to more turgid story telling. What a disappointment!! But of course Cate Blanchett will yet another Oscar!
