What comes through for me is the very honest dialogue. It is so esoteric for me as an Italian by heritage. I am American and born here, but these gestures and facial expressions are well known to me. The interactions by the characters is far better than the plot itself. And the lead actress IMMA is astonishing in portraying the emotions of a woman in an Italian culture that traditionally viewed them thru a sexual lens. She is smart, sensitive, and vulnerable. In essence, I love her.
P.S. Did IMMA'S hubby have a job? Or did he just play the sax and live off her?
