I have always enjoyed the Jack Reacher books, but I think this one was dialed in. I also think his editor told Lee Child’s it was time for Jack to get some action with the ladies and his relationship with Abby is formulaic and problematic. In some of these books Child’s seems to indicate that Jack is getting older, but in others he seems to back away from this and make Jack forever a rough living middle aged man. Child’s knows that he has a long standing readership and this audience is getting older and he would be honouring his character if he explored Jack’s mortality and what getting older means.
