this show is incredible. the acting, cast, screenwriting & the characters all have a special place in my heart. i wouldn't say the acting is the *best* but it's good enough for me. but what mesmerizes me the most is the plot. this plot is absolutely incredible. honestly, if the execution of the drama doesn't interest you, i highly recommend checking out the book (i haven't read it yet but i've heard the drama very closely follows the book). THE PLOT IS SO COMPLEX & RICH that even though 4 weeks has passed since i finished this drama, i'm still thinking about it. the story of mo dao zu shi (or the portion captured in The Untamed) is unforgettable. it is several beautiful love stories, weaved together to tell the beautiful, rich & painful life stories of the characters. i hold so much love for all (except jin guangyao and wen chao & his gf) of the characters. i personally also enjoyed the execution of the story by the directors. throughout the film, i was able to feel the character's pain, anguish & utter joy, and it really comes from smart screenplay & good acting (the small things!!). lastly, i'd like to commend wang yibo for his 10/10 acting, especially for a character that basically says 2 words each episode (this translates to A TON of small facial expressions) & xiao zhan for bringing wei wuxian to life. <3
i doubt i can emotionally recover from this. with that, (SPOILER ALERT don't read past this phrase if you don't want things spoiled) i'd like to end this review with a quote from a fellow viewer's comment on the last episode: "this drama started with wei wuxian saying 'lan zhan' & ended with lan zhan saying "wei ying" and you expect me to not cry?"
