Fancy yourself a horror movie buff? I nearly hung up my horror hat after watching this too-scary movie. First horror movie I have ever had to turn off (though my curiosity had me coming back later to finish it). Let's just say, I didn't feel right for DAYS after watching this.
It is so horrific in fact, that I am tempted to give it a low rating for falling into the realm of Dear God WHY was this made.... but in truth, it deserves full five star merit for what it is - the scariest movie I have ever seen. Just don't be offended when you are a changed person after watching it.
Most horror movies fall into one of two categories:
Category one: BOO! movies - these are your classic ghost ridden, demon/monster riddled, haunts. Exorcist music, scary makeup, and loud sounds are sure to have you spilling your popcorn, and sleeping with the bathroom light on.
Category two: Real-World Horror movies - the Shining, Silence of the Lambs, Saw, Carrie all come to mind... these movies are the ones that hit home because they really could happen any day, to anyone. Normally less scary upfront, but leave you lying awake at night...pondering... for weeks to come.
This movie says to heck with labels, and just goes for both. The first half of this movie demonstrates the worst human tragedy imaginable, and somehow manages to make it worse than anything you might have thought of. The acting is phenomenal. Unlike your average horror flick, the grief, shock, and family suffering are frighteningly palpable. I nearly threw up on my living room rug. Then, when (IF) you can get past this part, the movie launches into an equally unsettling BOO movie, featuring possessions, devil worship, and gory scenes aplently.
If you, like me, thought you could no longer be scared by movies...well... all I can say is... I warned you.
