Stormbringer Coming

Couldn’t make it more than 20 into this overly self indulgent exercise in navel gazing. There isn’t one spontaneous moment at what I saw. Everything is lily white and choreographed. There is nothing interesting about them. I began to watch this for the car crash value. In the end, I felt shame. Don’t waste your time.

A total disappointment. As a huge fan of the most perfect drama in the history of television, this movie goes in so many directions and comes up short every time. There is no real depth to any of these legendary characters. The most you’ll come away with is… “oh, so that explains that”! I had absolutely no interest in anything that happened to any of the characters. The footage is dark and hazy, the actors have nothing to say and there’s absolutely no reason for the film to exist. There was more emphasis in the music used than an actual script. My criteria for enjoying a film is simply this, are the characters interesting? In Many Saints, the answer is a resounding NO.

Would’ve been better if it were Rosie O’Donnell vs. Lizzo fighting over the desert bar at Golden Corral.

Very little of the story is grounded to what really happened. That would be forgivable if it wasn’t such a self indulgent pity party disguised as a rock biopic. It’s one thing to navel gaze, but through the Hubble telescope is something else. Virtually everyone closely connected with Elton in this story let him down and wronged him irreparably causing him to become a huge megastar. Poor poor Elton. Small trade off if you ask me. The only person that seemed to be on his side was Bernie Taupin. Elton’s music was and is special to me. This movie will not diminish that. The whole time during this movie I thought to myself, would EJ trade all his success and fame for the hugs and love that he feels he was deprived of? Probably not. That’s why this movie sucks.
