It felt like it was 500 pages too long - some parts felt like it went on and on talking about the same point and by the end of the book I was fed up...especially with Jude. It felt repetitive like the story kept coming back into the loop of pages of repeating points, self-harm, glimpse of potentially great story-telling and then back again over and over.
Yes there's trauma, but Jude's character didn't grow or evolve - just an endless loop of trauma, self-harm, apologies, rinse and repeat. For a character surrounded by privilege and love, it would've been great to see what he would've done with those experiences and put it to good use.
