Anxious People as the title suggests is an exploration of humanity in its rawest form - honest, passionate, silly and above all - brimming with love. An anthology well sewn together with every intricate detail of the human emotion is what the story is. Several characters- each with their own quirks and battles come together to teach you life’s most tender lesson - Life is what happens in those delicate moments that slip between two measurable points in time. Because, seriously Fredrick Backman owns the “feel good genre”. He will make you sob like a baby but also giggle like one with his quick wit, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself worlds wiser, basking in the magic of his words. The characters, with all their imperfections and quirks, remind you to be kinder—not just to the world, but to yourself. The plot is a complex puzzle, that falls into place in the most unexpected yet beautifully simple way—just like life itself. In one line: this book restored my faith in humanity. And if Anxious People were a person—funny, compassionate, comforting, and wise—I’d marry them for sure!

The only thing the filmmakers got right was the title—because this movie should’ve stayed *their little secret*. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all bad. Erica’s Shih Tzu showed more emotion than all the actors combined. Despite their best efforts to make this a holiday hallmark, it’s sad to think it won’t even make half of what the cast collectively spent on Botox. Lindsay Lohan would’ve been better off lip-syncing to *Jingle Bell Rock* than starring in an actual Christmas movie. What starts as a sweet lovers’ reunion quickly careens off the rails into a completely different genre, with a jaundice outbreak halfway through. Seriously, how did they not notice all that yellow on their faces? The makeup artists are clearly destined for the zombie apocalypse genre. I’m convinced half the budget went into that bizarre yellow foundation. I’m not sure if Avery (Lindsay) was running from her mom’s death or the movie script, but the editors of this film definitely ran from their responsibilities. I get it, though—it must’ve been hard to stay awake while editing those painfully bland scenes and the scattered screenplay. If you’re looking for a cozy winter film (cozy enough to put you to sleep), this is your pick. And Netflix? They've surely pulled off the prank of the year by classifying this as "charming and witty."

A Thousand Splendid Suns unarguably is Khaled Hosseini's best work. No wonder why even after being wonderfully penned, 'And The Mountains Echoed ' failed to clear the bar. This book pushes your soul off the cliff but catches it with utmost delicacy. The plot, sewed with heartache, is insanely intense but hopeful at the same time. It talks about the extraordinary tales of two ordinary women and how their lives were affected by the dire socio-political circumstances of Afghanistan from the early 1960s to the early 2000s. How they overcome extreme situations and bond together over time forms the crux of the story. It can never occur to you how immovable the protagonists can be even after a series of unending misfortunes. Mariam and Laila are two of the most impactful and emotionally rich female characters ever written. Their bond is beautifully strange in the best possible way. Empathy is a small to describe your feelings towards Mariam and Laila. You laugh with them, cry for them, suffer with them, and bond with them so much that in the end, you cannot separate your feeling from theirs. Ironical how such a soul-wrenching story leaves behind the brightest rays of hope. In one line, 'this book has shattered me in the gentlest possible way.'
