SPOILERS - I first saw this film when I was in my early twenties when it was on the TV in the background while I was tidying. I was drawn into it and the tidying fell by the wayside. The cinematography is gorgeous and the music by John Barry is sublime and Reeve and Seymour are perfection in their roles. In fact, I would go so far as to say this was Christopher Reeve's finest performance. This is a story of lost souls finding an impossible love and then losing it. When Richard Collier is yanked back to 1980 I literally shouted, 'NO' at the TV and sat down with tears streaming down my face. Never has a movie had that immediate effect on me and never has since - you viscerally feel Collier's despair at first losing Elise and then as his attempts to get back to her fail. An utterly beautiful, understated masterpiece of a love story and to this day I can't watch it or listen to the soundtrack without tearing up. If you've ever lost true love, this film will speak to you like very few other movies are able to do.
