I agree with all the other disappointed readers. It was so dull and turgid and wandered aimlessly about. Too many characters which I felt we were supposed to know but they were unmemorable and indistinct. I only staggered to finish it because someone in my book group suggested it and the others chose it. Presumably without checking the reviews. I resent the hours I’ve wasted trying to wade through to what ended in a pantomime. I think this was self- indulgent and unworthy of the author of so many much better books. A1 might have done better to engage the reader. Not a patch on Agatha Christie and Poirot with their complex plots and devious characters which leave you wondering until the denouement. By the end of reading this it was just relief it was all over. And the ending felt like a poke in the eye frankly.
