The storyline sounded promising, however episode 1 came across more like a low budget science fiction movie. The writing was weak thus giving the appearance of poor acting. The sinkhole cgi would have been ok.........20 years ago. What were likely meant to be wolves and a sabertooth were sad by modern cgi potential. Compared to Lost this opening episode was awful.
