I loved the segment today about reading day and the organization that donated to a local school so that the children could get their own books. We have an angel lady in Danville who has a goal of giving one million books away in her lifetime! I had the pleasure of teaching with her and I’m proud to say she’s making tremendous progress towards her goal. She has a website that explains all the particulars of how she got started. It also has beautiful pictures of some of the places she leaves books and the children who receive them. She uses her own money to buy some of the books, others are donated new or gently used by the community or out of town friends. Some are mailed to children as birthday presents, others are left in boxes on the steps of housing developments, at the food pantry, the city jail, the list is Endless! If you are reading this and would like to help, please go to the website Joy of Reading Danville. You will enjoy the children’s faces if nothing else! My friend’s name is Jennifer Williams. She has given away more than 27,000 books to date!! One quote she has posted says, “Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon!” As a retired teacher of 34 years I applaud Jennifer for all she does for our children and to promote the love of reading.
