This solid BBC effort shows Laurel and Hardy in their faded glory in 1953. Both are in their 60's as they tour England once more hoping to spur interest to finance one more film. The duo soldier's on despite conflict, Hardy's health issues, and half-empty venues. Some self-promos boost attendances, while the arrival of their wives adds tension and love to the drama. John C. Reilly absolutely nails tOliver Hardy, while Steve Coogan is also solid as the more serious Stan Laurel (a Native of England). Together they recreate the chemistry and devotion of this famous duo, with Shirley Henderson (Mrs. Hardy) and Nina Arianda (Mrs. Laurel) giving first-rate support. This is a must-see for fans willing to enjoy 97 bittersweet minutes that may leave them smiling thru tears.
