This book isn't a slave narrative. The author glosses over the horrendous slave trade. Additionally, the author has the audacity to wonder who the father was of the enslaved women's mulatto babies. What's extremely disgusting is where the author states that mulatto children were the result of "sexual unions," between enslaved women and white plantation owners-- no, the women were raped, full stop. Read true slave narratives written by slaves, instead of this watered down version.
