One of the greats. Every aspect of this film works, story,screenplay, cast,acting, location and direction. I find the black and white filming works very well and is most atmospheric and they had Frankie Laine singing the song! I enjoyed the remake also but having watched both versions in a short space of time l find l much prefer the original - mind you in the course of a long life l have watched it at "the pictures" originally and several times on other formats.
