Why is there such a dichotomy of opinion between critics and audience over this film? Could it be that the critics are too.. well.. critical? They're just doing their job i suppose but, on this occasion, I think that the so called "trained eye " is more like a SPRAINED eye. For us unprofessionals, it's just a great film. Sad and beautifully crafted, if you don't end up caring for these characters you must be a.. film critic?

A story of relationship told against the broad sweep of history. Gentle and nuanced. Beautiful

Perhaps it resembles what life was like but not very closely methinks. It is more a sort of soapy instruction on what matters and, at every turn, it seeks to illustrate that mankind is inherently good. The perfect antidote for the hardened cynic.
