This movie was a bland, boring, repetitive, unserious version of “Superman”.
Last night, my wife and I watched the new Superman hoping for a great date night in with a big bowl of popcorn to watch one of the greatest superheroes get a cinematic rebirth that is deserving of the first 5 letters of his name. Instead, we got a film that jumped right in with zany characters, witty comebacks, some random, scantily dressed journalist, and zero world-building.
I couldn’t have cared less about any of the characters that appeared on screen. Tension? Forget about it. Backstory? We did that with 3 sentences at the beginning of the movie. Superman’s parents? They’re portrayed as idiotic midwestern simple folks who may not be able to find the camera button on their handheld TVs (phones).
Reading through some of these 5 star reviews, it’s obvious that more than half of them are written by chatGPT. Y’all aren’t even smart enough to remove ChatGPT’s initial response of “Sure! Here’s a witty, in-depth review of Superman (2025) with no spoilers!” It’s obvious that the genius hivemind over at DC studios is going to prop James Gunn up as best as they can since they’ve already got the new Super(drunk)girl slated to come out next year.
This movie was everything that’s wrong with the film industry in its current state. Zack Snyder was dragged across the coals, and his take on Superman, “Man of Steel”, was caught in the crossfire. James Gunn wishes he could put a Superman film like that together. And so do I.
This movie doesn’t even deserve this many words in a review but at least it’s coming from a real person and not an AI (the hyphens really give you all away). I wouldn’t even be surprised if James Gunn used ChatGPT to write the script. Just awful.
The only thing Superman (2025) does well is help us to realize how much of a masterpiece “Man of Steel” (2013) really was.
1/10. Don’t pay for this movie. Wait for it to be free on streaming services.
