-initial thoughts after just getting back from the cinema- 3.5/5 First off, the style has evolved and become more impressive from the first film. although at times it was overwhelming, the colors impressive, yet too powerful, when having to focus on about 5- people at a time it became very confusing, ontop of all of their different dialogue, making it difficust to see whose obscured face it was coming from. I really do fear that this style, worked, although i belive it may become the new norm, with puss in boots adopting it and the new Tenage Mutant Ninja turtles having a similar one, i worry that they will tire the formula. The soundtrack and score was impressive and elevated the threat of the characters they were written for, although at times the music obscured the dialogue. It was hard enough having to keep track of the 7 web-swinging protagonists, and now we are hit with a obnoxious (yet charming) musical piece, on top of all that. It was just as fun as in the first flick to see all these spider-people and enjoy the easteregg of vaguely remembering all the charachters from that one comic you read years ago, that similarly had some quip they would spurt out, although you didnt get enough context of their character for their joke to make any sense, as all the jokes were some sort of thier manifestation of their charachter. There was one charachter I actively disliked and it was The punk spiederman, as i felt they could have done something much more interesting with him. Instead he was some default 'F*** the corpirations' cockeny charachter. Is that all the range british people got? Cockeny and extreemely posh. Going to the narrative, we follow a well established Miles Morales Spiderman. Admittedly struggling to juggle his home life with his now more refined spiderman...ing. The initial antagonist (one wasnt enough) seemed comedic and uselesss, but he sucessfully evolved into being a serious threat. I really felt the gravitas of the situation with his artstyle becomeing more and more interesting, as he became abstracted from the comic-book style. No spoilers, but they didnt finish the f****** movie. Just seems like a cash grab, i was sitting in my seat thinking, 'oh, its obvious that its just going to get resolved, Miles was about to pucnch that guy and be ok'. Then i was hit with a "TO BE CONTINUED..." and was left extreemely unsatisfied, from what was a standalone film that shone a light on the tired expectations of an audience has fallen ill to what made it so unique, ITS UNIQUENESS. I dont want to see unexpected sequels, to make more money just as pixar made uncuccesful sequels, and trod on what made the origionals so special Thankyou for reading, sorry if it doesnt make much sense im going to bed, its late.
