I wanted to like this show - the previews looked great and interesting but sadly it brought none of that same suspense and drama to it's ten episodes. The setting and genre of Cursed would be my exact cup of tea, if it wasn't so mindbogglingly boring and baffling.
From the get go, the episodes are chaotic and throw the watcher around in a jarring manner. It's a confusing bumble of scenes that become frustrating more often than not because characters make absolutely unrealistic choices. This is only one of the many reasons I can't seem to like a SINGLE one of them in this show. Almost all feel stilted, thoughtless, and lack interesting development. They are there to drive the plot with actions that are not believable - this is a bit of a let down because many have the potential to be great. The very few I would have enjoyed learning more about simply get no screen time or meet their demise.
It feels like this show doesn't know what it's own tone is supposed to be - most of the series feels like teen drama, yet the next second gory hacks and slashes, and the artistic transitions between scenes (while beautiful) feel out of place.
Cursed became a little less mind numbing in the latter episodes but was still all together not enjoyable. There were no satisfying resolutions, no spotlight on lore that would make the series more interesting, and it seems unsure in the direction it wants to take the characters and audience.
All in all, the show wasn't for me but it could definitely shine with proper focus, grounding, and less unnecessary clutter. If it continues with a second season I wish them all the best in hopefully wrangling the chaos.
