I finally got around to watching this film. I hesitated because of the negative press around it and didn't want to feel like wasting time on a movie that would let me down. Now that I watched it I understand both sides of why it is both good and bad. The Good first: The story has a captivating storyline. Thor feeling lost and alone, Jane Foster's return with her struggles and the compelling story of Gor the God Butcher and ties back to his backstop and the love of his child and what made him become the butcher. The cinematography as always was great and it felt realistic and not total CGI. Now the Bad: The story was completely rushed. The plot line didn't have enough setup time to really work. The emotional aspects of both Thor and Jane needed more development to make it really make sense. They did a much better job on Gor but it is a throw away essentially on a one time character that has little to build on in subsequent films. There could have been either more ambiguity here or they should have invested more in the long term and adjusted the ending. It's good to know Thor is still part of the MCU moving forward but his character development is in need of adjustment. I get the funny comedy which can work but there also needs to he a dark and very real undertine to his character. There needs to be real demons he is facing. They did this quite well in the Avengers Infinity War and should go back to that style of character for him. In all I give it 3 stars. Taiga Waititi is still one of my favorite directors but he needs to buddy up with someone who does better at dark character development to make the story compelling and they need to work harder on developing these major storyline rather than just throwing them at the audience like they have been building up to it.
