An artful way to explore not only the autism spectrum but that of being human. I hope more movies are made that shine a light on our differences and expanding beauty.
I have read a little about the controversy in the Autism community that has surfaced because of this film. The restraining triggered a lot of people. I can say with personal experience that sometimes that can feel like the only option to protect that person and yourself. Is it the most effective tool? Absolutely not. That being said... When life has you down and in situations like these character were in.... poor, tired, with mental and emotional issues of their own. Maybe that’s all they knew. Maybe that’s all they were taught. I didn’t see it as aggressive.
There is room to grow and spread information on how to handle that situation. At least it’s in the limelight-now and may we not cast blame on one another while we learn.
If anything this movie showed me something I already knew, that people on the spectrum are beautiful minds and divine souls that we don’t fully understand yet. Conversation starts somewhere. As does awareness.
Thank you Sia. Thank you to all the actors for pouring their souls into this piece of art.
