I loved the movie; it was funny, smart, and moving. You don't see a lot of films about female creativity and this one really highlights the topic. The story is filtered through the lens of another smart girl -- the daughter who loves her independent, quirky mother. I didn't read the book; I'll probably seek it out now, but it won't change my take. The movie stands on its own. And of course Cate Blanchett is worth the price of admission.
