Unexpectedly Through The Darkness initially was categorized as a crime thriller drama but it ended w/a theme of a healing drama instead. The production was true to its word from the start that the drama is to focus more on the profilers seeking justice for the victims. Through Song Hayoung , the victims and families were highlighted. Through The Darkness is not a "whodunnit" drama but instead it became a gateway for the lesser persons to become the center of the story--those who suffered and those who struggled to solve these brutal cases. Story, character development and resolution represent the production as well. It's still amazing to know that the people behind this well-made drama are young blood , a majority of it is like Yoon TaeGu who debuted on positions(director/writer) that are dominated by male population. Writer Seolyina 's creative freedom crafted harmoniously with Prof. Kwon's life story.PD Boram and Planning PD Kim Mijoo designed the blueprint in such a way that the story is not just for fun and ent. but an eye opener as well. While it is given that this is an ensemble of impressive actors, we can help but recognize the actors who played the villain roles. Each of them studied and understood their roles so well, that in the end we like to cheer on their future projects then on. And mostly, KIMNAMGIL once again inked another life character on his filmography. We may never understand fully the victims, even the minds of criminals if not for his stellar acting. Hoping that he had flushed this character before stepping to another one. We felt his suffering, his inner thoughts and conflicts that only KIMNAMGIL could pull all these complexities . Kim Nam Gil is Song Hayoung. Song Hayoung is Kim Nam Gil himself. An interpretation that is undeniably daesang worthy. Bravo.
