Not sure why this getting so many 5/5 stars. Are people actually saying this is a perfect album? Their favorite? I’m a lifelong cure fan and have been waiting for this release with as much anticipation as the rest, so maybe I got my hopes up a little too much. There’s nothing wrong with the album, but also nothing great. All songs are predictable, no chances taken. I think the worst is Reeves screaming guitar solos. Terrible metal tone and to me just dosent fit the style of the cure. Jason’s drums are fine, but obviously synced to a click track. I miss the wild hooky drum parts from Lol, Boris, and Andy. Simon’s bass is always on point, but again no standouts. Nice to see Roger back, always managed to find the right sounds, but where’s the magic of Disintegration? Robert still has it, lyrics are great, but he should have written a song called “the magic is gone”. I think the best track is the final song on the album, Endsong. All said and done, I’ll take it, it just won’t be on heavy rotation. Back to The Top I go!
