I loved reading this book and couldn't put it down once I’d started.
I’d had some recent epiphanies as to how I conduct my life and whilst i often mislabeled others through conversation and with my unwillingness to dig further, I had come to understand, that I was the most predictably boring conversationalist in the room. I wad saddened by this, as i genuinely come from a life of varied experiences. I felt unable to tell my truth and unable to see beyond someone’s chosen narrative of themselves or moreover their presentation / marketing version of themselves.
I would be lying if i said, “this book has changed all that”, as i have been working to improve myself over time, however, it did add further insight. It spoke to me in a thoughtful manner of teaching as opposed to a lecture on life and helped guide me to a myriad of engaging conversations since finishing it.Truly rewarding conversations that have greatly deepened my relationships.
My daughter said to me mid breakfast last week, somethings different about you, you seem…more calm. I think that has a lot to do with opening myself up to being seen and having removed a great deal of fear of doing so.
This is a fantastic book. My first by David Brooks and it’s been a wonderful journey.
