I wanted to enjoy this movie so badly because I was stuck on a plane with limited options. It started off okay, a bit graphic but seemed promising. However, had I not been confined to my seat, I would not have sat through this - not because of all the political points the other reviews are mentioning but because the characters are flat, the story is boring and the scenes are unnecessarily gruesome while dragging on and on (seriously - the slaughterhouse - why?! Use that time to build the characters!) Meanwhile, we have no idea what actually happened to the main character despite it being teased throughout, and the perpetrator’s entire character profile is seemingly forgotten by the end. The person the cops have been describing is nothing like the character they reveal anyway. I wish I could go back in time and watch sometime else instead; I hardly bother reviewing movies, but this one actually made me so mad that I am here. The one star is for convincing me it will improve even though it doesn’t.
