I had a hard time watching this movie, because of it's theme. But because Truth and Reconciliation day was just this past week, I wanted to get a better understanding of what the Indigenous people went through. It is both disgusting and enraging, as to how this people group were treated, in the name of God. God does not work like this. He does not disrespect, hurt, or treat us in this way. The Catholic Church was absolutely 100% wrong in what they did, and as far as I know the Pope has not apologized yet. And that is horrific and cold. Obviously none of us alive today would have had much to do with these residential schools. Although there may be some who are still alive, but it doesn't matter if we had anything to do with it or not. As a country this is to our shame, and needs to be dealt with better. This movie, which was filmed four years ago, is an eye-opener for anyone who may not believe that it was that bad. I have seen documentaries which show far worse treatment, than this movie was showing. And I had a glimmer of hope for the one priest who was kind to Indian Horse. But then in the end I was heartbroken. We need to realize why Indigenous people are dealing with the hurt, shame, rejection, and grief of their past and their future. How could anybody go through what happened in these residential schools, and come out a better person? This movie is a must see if you have thoughts that indigenous people are complaining too much, and making a fuss out of the past that they should get over it. This is not something that anybody could get over easily. If even at all. And the fact that they are still treated poorly, does not help to let go of the past. I am grateful to the producers of this movie and their story, even though it was hard to watch. Thank you to the actors, for enlightening me. And even if it doesn't mean much, I want to say that I am sorry for the way that the Indigenous people were treated. I have a better understanding now of what they went through, and why they are still dealing with trauma. This movie and any other documentaries on the subject, along with Survivor stories, should cause everyone of us to grieve for the atrocities caused by the Catholic church. And if we are not Indigenous, then we need to be grateful that our ancestors did not have to go through this.
