Excellent movie, but read the book some years later, and disappointed to learn it was less than 100% accurate. Can a true story be "improved" by adding in some fiction? --maybe from a *box office" standpoint I suppose.

One of my all time favourites. As a longtime of the "illegitimate" theatre, realize the opening special effects add a dimension impossible to achieve on a stage. Old enough to have seen the original Claude Raines movie--not even close to the ALW version. Recently read the book (albeit the English translation)--found different stories in all three--but that's OK--it was just a story to begin with, so who's to say a "story" has to follow the original--maybe it can be improved upon (as in this latest version).

Often the "best" stories are the "true" ones, as skillfully told in this film, even allowing for certain "liberties" that might have been taken in the telling.
