If you're still getting your suggestions from Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB you're being influenced by the wrong People with their own ego critic in-fighting egos. Go to Letterbxd where this film is well liked.

I don't want to tell you the plot or anything else that might influence your take on this. I suggest you watch it. I'm almost 60 and I enjoyed the F out of it while sometimes wanting (ok I did) throw things. We can discuss the realities of teen angst later. When you watch it pay attention to the sound, not just the soundtrack (although that's brilliantly thought out) groove on the set design as used by the director (s) don't overthink it.
