Very Disappointing (especially after watching an even more disappointing first year of Paramount’s TV series, Joe Pickett - that should have been canceled after 1 year, not 2). Either Box is getting tired of writing and coming up with good plots - or he’s on a deadline that doesn’t allow for his normal creative exciting stories to be told. Seriously, a mechanical bear? This is one of Box’s worst character building efforts of the 20+ Joe Pickett books I’ve read, with a dumb plot, joined by long boring segments that do little to thrill the reader. I would’ve given it 2 stars… but I like CJ Box and hope this was just a misstep.

With high expectations after The Firm (like Maverick after Top Gun ) - this read is one of the most disappointing reads in my 70 years. Long, boring, sloooow, no drama, no character development, complicated idiotic world travel, no action, no emotion - beyond awful ending. Who wrote this book? I’m an author myself of 13 books (non fic) - and I seldom give scathingly poor reviews like this, … but this one deserves it.
