Are we not going to talk about the fact that Taraji P Henson's character raped Aldis Hodge's character? He was clearly saying stop, looked extremely uncomfortable, and was being physically abused. And that was played for laughs. Rape of Black men is constantly made light of. Not to mention that the entire moral of this story was that Taraji P Henson's character was too loud, too abrasive, too competitive, too self-centered. We hear this story about Black women constantly. Y'all not tired of this narrative? Parable of the Black woman who would have been more successful earlier if she had just listened to a man. There was more to this movie. Ms. Henson's character did learn to listen in general: she made moves to become a better friend and boss. She worked through childhood traumas. She had a great relationship with her single father, a rarity in Black media. The movie centered a darker skinned Black woman and a dark skinned Black man without fetishizing their Blackness. And it's full of laugh-out-loud moments. I wouldn't recommend paying to see this movie. But it's worth a bootleg.
