This is an amazing movie! Such a fantastic political satire. The impending planet-destroying comet is really a metaphor for not only climate change but also I think for COVID-19 and the pandemic especially as it pertains to the reactions of the populace and the politicians in the movie. Meryl Streep, who is always fantastic, plays a very Trump-like president with a complete absence of political intellect, social realities, and whose only concern is ratings and popular vote. There are characters who clearly represent Elon musk, Jared Kushner, and other Trump-era cabinet members. It also touches strongly on social media, pop-culture, and the ever-growing self-absorbed nature of humanity as a whole. (He or she with the highest ratings and most likes and followers rules the world. How about another selfie?) Other characters in the movie I think are probably more representative of really the entire scientific community who actually have a grasp on reality and are just trying to get the word out to the world about impending doom and disaster. It’s a difficult thing to do when people are more interested in the personal lives of pop culture icons (Who is dating who? Who broke up with who? etc.) and less interested in the fact that the world is going to end in 6 1/2 months (as per the story line.) In spite of the fairly serious subject matter and undertones, the movie is hilarious. It has a phenomenal cast and it’s just pure entertainment from start to finish. I encourage everyone to watch it. Regardless of your political views, it is really just a movie to watch for the entertainment value and again for the fantastic portrayals by this really wonderful ensemble cast. Two great big thumbs up!!

Just finished watching it. I am pretty sure it is only my cancer treatments which caused emotional roller coasters and menopause that allowed me to have even one shred of emotion about this movie. I think this is one of those movies where it is interesting how the sicker the patient gets the better they look. Terrible movie. I don’t know why Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Bates, treat Williams or any of the other really fantastic actors in this movie would have a greed to do this movie. Perhaps they had nothing better to do? Maybe they owed Kate Hudson a favor? Regardless, this movie is really terrible and I am only glad that I watched it on Amazon prime for free. Had I seen it in the movie theater I am pretty sure I would’ve demanded my money back. Right now I would just like to get back the two hours that I just wasted watching this horrible movie!
