I loved the first one. But you could delete this book and move onto the 3rd one and you'd miss little to no story. Look up the spark notes and move onto the 3rd book

I was very excited for this movie when I first saw the trailer. I wasn't expecting a Denis Villeneuve level of detail but I thought the movie was well made. I was especially impressed by the way the AI robots moved. They looked very natural and it was always cool when they were on screen.
The one thing I will say is it took me a while to get into the movie. I was very immersed in the world but the story in the first act is a little lackluster. But overall great sci-fi film. Support it if you want the studio heads to know that we want more movies like this.
