I wanted the show to be better. Even ignoring the liberties taken on the characters and considering this its own stand-alone entity: the show is not very good. It tries way too hard to be campy and glib to the point it undermines the entire story. Before you can get halfway through an episode, they have dissolved the plot significance to the point it no longer carries weight. It makes the story fall incredibly flat. In it's effort to attempt to capture the buoyancy of Pratchett's tone, they reduce their entire story to a derivative joke of itself like they're afraid to embrace the majesty of the fantasy form. In addition, they work incredibly hard to not only shoehorn a social narrative into the story- they slap you clean across the face with it. Subtlety is lost here. Not only do these folks not know how to masterfully weave together a story- they seem to have perfected the art of misrepresenting the art. It is a miscarriage of narrative they believe should be bronzed and placed on display in the town square. This show cannot get cancelled soon enough. What a shame.
