Cannon Birdie

I am a huge fan of Miyazaki but hell no, this is not the Miyazaki movie that one would expect to watch. Instead, you get a movie which has no storyline, no buildings of characters relationship or even, characters have no characteristics at all. The visual effect is unexciting, not even on par with Miyazaki's 20 years ago old works. About after watching 3/4 of this plain, dull, bland, soulless movie, I fell asleep. Miyazaki should have stopped after the release of "The wind rises" in 2013. The Boy and the Heron tainted his reputation, which is a regret if not for himself, but for his loyal fans like me.

If you want to waste your time on old fashioned, totally uncreative, unimaginative, unbelievable, lack lustte movie, then this is it. Perhaps I am not qualified to rate this movie since I had only watched about 30 minutes of it. Regretted that I had wasted my 30 minutes. Period.

The movie is the director's show off of his "intelligence" and "knowledge" of the classical music world, yet totally disregard if the audience is able to follow the story. My guess is that he doesn't bother at all. The cinemagraphy is staged, almost pretentious. The several scenes of TAR running and/or boxing in a gym after her paranormal encounters (the movie doesn't tell what these are) are repeated unnecessarily. But overall the movie was bearable (thanks to Cate Blanchett's powerful acting) until the last 15 minutes. I hope that the ending of the movie does not reflect the state of mind of the director. Otherwise Cate's superb performance was a waste. Somehow I have the feeling that this is the type of movies that are made to enter and win Awards in the director's mind. Honestly, if not because of Cate Blanchett, I would have stopped watching it in 15 minutes the most.
