This is a note from the compiler. In the 1990s and 2000s, Taliaferro researchers made considerable progress on defining this family, particularly in Caroline Co, VA--a county in which I specialize, having ties to many families there. As a result, the TALIAFERRO INDEX is the first time that a report on the family can be reported in a comprehensive way through the 4th generation in Virginia. The late, great WW.Rogers and his very authoritative team of researchers published a series of journal articles that clearly were breakthroughs in the Caroline Family, focussed on the Blenheim Branch. I too had reached similar conclusions on the Caroline families on my own, but I waited for them to publish first, even though my draft was completed in 1999. I should also mention the great work by Margaret Amundson on Robert III's branch, also in Caroline. At last report, she is now retired (I am a generation younger than this more senior generation). Work needs to be done on the 5th and 6th generations as the INDEX reports these in a tentative way. But know that by tracing generations 1-4, in many cases this will nearly get Taliaferro researchers to the more completely enumerated 1850 census. Charley Marsteller, 2019
