Michael Scampini

An odd movie that is enjoyable but not memorable. The formula for the movie is simple. Rich girl needs to find herself, mean man hates rich girl but gives her a try. She learns discipline from mean man, he learns about himself. OK, its a formula, but it is a cute movie. Brittany Murphy played herself in this movie. No real effort was placed on her part to stretch as an actress. She played basically a mixture of her Clueless character mixed with Uptown Girl and Little Black Book. I think she even threw in the eyebags from Spun for good measure. I probably will never watch it again but I won't say it was terrible. Enjoyable, but not noteworthy is the best I can give this film.

I'll be honest, its a joy to see the characters again and their lives up to this point. However, its clear that this is a major simplification of the original series. The writing is less creative and lacking the cleverness of the original. Even hot button topics are handled in a way that is just silly rather than clever and mashed together like there isn't enough time to explore them. Its like the original writers were all let go except two, and now they are teaching an undergraduate writing class how to write a series.
