My father died when I was only 1 and I felt this movie was EXTREMELY insensitive to the pain of that reality. They totally minimize the role of a Father in a child’s life. Having a cool older brother absolutely doesn’t make it all okay. Walking around all day with half of his dad’s body, unable to talk to him is way traumatic. Nothing about that is funny or cute or sweet. Pixar put way more care and emotion into the death of someone’s imaginary friend, than they put into a child barely missing the opportunity to have time with their dead parent. They usually do such a good job of honoring characters emotions, but this entire story line completely disregarded the main character. And in turn disregarded the very real grief and turmoil of people with a similar family situation.
