This makes me sad. I'm fully aware that they wanted to be like the source material. The source material is more interesting. Everything I love about the original is gone. Even though I'm a guy, I could always be inspired by the 1998 Mulan (I grew up with it). I get that for young girls the movie probably hits home more. I can only speak from my own perspective. The original Mulan is probably my favorite Disney movie and makes you feel like you can accomplish anything if you really work hard with determination. Mulan 2020 is not a story that sends a good message towards people who are born imperfect (which is everyone). There's a certain hard truth that some people are just born more athletic, smarter, or more attractive than others but that doesn't account for all the success of those that have to grind for their talent. The original Mulan had to work hard and earn respect, just to show she is just as capable as anyone else, man or woman. In summary Mulan 1998 = Great, Mulan 2020 = Greed.
