This makes absolutely no sense. Not long enough is spent on exploring anything Alice and Jack actually have in common. She is often rude and cold to him, we so no insight at all into why he's head over heels for her. Some scenes are genuinely laughable. The dad dying at the funeral of the mum in a near slapstick manner? Do you want me to take this seriously or not. I can't really fault the performance of Domnhall Gleeson but some of the acting is weak, with the talent of actors these days it's rare I notice bad performances, but the lady who plays Alice? I just never bought her performance. I'm also expected to believe a relationship he has with a son with a beautiful Irish lady ends because he can't help himself from going to a funeral for a lady he seems to have less in common with an is objectively less attractive than his current wife. The final straw for me is when Alice marries the football agent, the acting became so poor I had to give up. I really felt like this had potential to be a really good story like "One Day", but there will never be another day I try and sit through this averagely acted poor story. Sorry for being negative but I want to save people from making the mistake I did and watching this.

Another one of the films of the ultra artsy "Belfast" style where nothing really happens. All of the men seem selfish and horrible whereas the women bravely stick it out, the other way around it would be called out for being sexist. It tries to do too much I think, Survivors on BBC (mid 2000s-ish) did this genre far better. Comer is a brilliant actor though, no doubt about that, didn't really buy into her chemistry with Joel Fry though.

Entertaining, if slightly far-fetched at times. I feel like Netflix's involvement like this made it needlessly watered down from the intentions of the novel that I believe it is based on. 1) Why does every character speak in English, have the Germans speaking German and the French speaking French. Subtitles are fine. When Germans met French people there likely were translation issues and frustrations, why not have this in the show? Having everyone speaking English makes no sense. 2) The continual reference to the "Americans" coming, this is likely because the show is made for an American audience, but they would have more likely called us "Le alies" or something along those lines, because the French knew it wasn't just Americans but also Canadians and British coming. 3) There is also some historical demographic and military errors but I'm willing to let this pass as it's made for a general audience. Overall, entertaining, but slightly strange portrayal of a novel.

Probably the most boring film I've ever seen. Nothing happens. Nothing happening in a film is seemingly a current trend, to allow middle-class film reviewers to sneer at people who rightly call it out as boring. For Troubles content, there are some good films (79) and many great documentaries. This is ball-acheingly dull

Mind-numbing these days. Would be good to have a series with actual normal people rather than wannabe influences. Paul the electrician trying to impress a secretary from Leeds for example. Scenes.

The first series was brilliant. The following series are some of the most mind-numbingly boring, non-sensical, style-over-substance nonsense the entertainment industry has ever created. This show (after series one) can only impress people who like nice dresses and good editing, because the storyline is weaker than a teabag brewed in an ocean. Please save yourself and don't watch this utter, utter, total, utter, GARBAGE.

Seems deeply unethical to dramatise such a tragic event as this. Pretty tasteless.
