The idea of a sleepless world had so much potential but I was dissapponted with this movie's approach. The plot felt as if they had 10 different ideas of what should occur in the story and mashed it all together even when it wouldn't fit as a whole.
SPOILERS:
The characters felt like they weren't thought out thoroughly. A lot of characters conveniently just die for the sake of the plot, the guy who had the coordinates immediately died when his purpose of being the source of the location of the hub was fulllfilled, The guy who was the reason they had a working car died a few scenes after, they then met an escaped inmate that conveniently didn't stay with the kids when the mother went to the hub but came suddenly dropped the kids off, then also died.
They seem to want Matilda to be portrayed as smart, someone who can learn things fast and even at the ending managed to figure out the cure but all throughout the movie she never thought about the situation she was in or the potential danger she could be in if they reached the hub. After all her Mother's sacrifice to check if the hub was safe first, she still went and ruined the whole plan. She was only smart when the movie needed the plot to move forward but for the rest of the movie she was very clueless of her surroundings. She was portrayed to be so innocent that she wouldn't think that the people in the hub would harm her but at the same time understand sex (which was a bad attempt to add humor since it made her character more confusing). She was such a inconsistent character.
The Mother had a clearly old enough son to understand the situation but explains nothing to him which seemed to be what they want us to deem as a good enough reason for him to just keep telling people that his sister can sleep. He started to show some responsibility when looking for the map but all throughout the movie he was just dead weight leading them to danger.
The only consistent character in the movie was the mother.
I very much appreciate plot twists but the ending was quite disappointing.
