This novel truly provided me with an interesting outlook during a important formative period within my life. Within "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" protagonist, Greg Heffley, is a clear representation of the English working class during the Industrial Revolution. Greg's ceaseless attempts to reach a state of popularity truly represent the lack of upward mobility for newly urbanized workers. I believe the world in which the novel is placed is a heavily satirized version of the world we live in now, one of greed in which those who seek to advance to a place of wealth and affluence are squashed beneath the steel toe of governmental bureaucracy. Jeff Kinney's masterful and eloquent language pair perfectly with the abstract and divine imagery. Kinney's tale represents what the masses believe to be true. Kinney's masterpiece is an mixture and fusion of both Marxist teachings as well Brother's Grimm type fairy tales. I hope to see more novels such as this within our world, for I think education is the only way to advance our belligerent and boorish society.
